What is a take-up bearing

A take-up bearing unit (UCT) pairs a UC insert bearing with a slide T-housing. The housing can move along a slot so the shaft position can be adjusted to tighten or loosen a belt or chain.

It is used where fixed-center bearings cannot provide the tension adjustment a conveyor or elevator needs.

Where it is used

UCT units are common on belt conveyors, bucket elevators and other equipment where belt stretch or chain wear must be compensated without moving the frame.

They are usually mounted on a take-up frame with a threaded rod or bolt that drives the slide.

UCT structure

The T-housing has a slot that fits the take-up frame. A UC insert (for example UC205 in a UCT205) carries the shaft. The whole unit slides as the adjustment bolt turns.

Like other mounted units, the insert provides self-alignment and set-screw locking for the shaft.

How to adjust belt tension

Loosen the lock nuts, then turn the adjustment bolt to slide the unit along the slot. Move it until the belt tension is correct, then re-tighten the lock nuts and the shaft set screws.

Adjust gradually and re-check tension. Over-tightening shortens belt life and increases bearing load; too loose causes slippage and uneven wear.

Installation steps

Mount the T-housing on the take-up frame, confirm the shaft and bore, tighten the insert set screws, then position the unit using the adjustment bolt and secure the lock nuts.

Rotate the shaft by hand where possible and check for abnormal resistance before returning the equipment to normal operation.

Common mistakes

Common errors include adjusting only one side of a multi-unit system, over-tightening the belt, leaving lock nuts loose, and ignoring shaft misalignment.

If the unit runs hot or noisy after adjustment, stop and recheck tension, locking and alignment before continuing.

Adjustment checklist

  • Loosen lock nuts first.
  • Turn adjustment bolt gradually.
  • Re-check belt tension.
  • Re-tighten lock nuts and set screws.
  • Hand-rotate and inspect.

要点

  • A UCT unit slides in a slot to adjust belt or chain tension without moving the frame.
  • Adjust gradually, then secure lock nuts and set screws.
  • Avoid over-tightening, which shortens belt and bearing life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a take-up bearing used for?

It adjusts belt or chain tension on conveyors and elevators without moving the equipment frame, using a sliding T-housing.

Is UCT205 the same bore as UC205?

Yes, UCT205 uses a UC205 insert with a 25 mm bore; only the slide T-housing is added.

How tight should the belt be?

Tight enough to avoid slippage, not so tight that it overloads the belt and bearing. Adjust gradually and re-check.
